Recitation 3.0 - Everything you need to know

At Recitation, we created our homework planning app because nothing out there actually worked the way we needed as students. We were tired of clunky interfaces, limited views, and apps that didn’t think the way students think. That’s why we built Recitation from the ground up—to be the assignment tracker app that we always wished existed. Since then, we've continued improving it with features that genuinely help students stay on top of their busy schedules.

And now… we’re beyond excited to announce our biggest update yet. Get ready—because your favorite homework tracker app is about to make managing your classes even smoother, smarter, and more beautiful.

Month View is Here!

You asked, we listened. One of the most requested features is finally live: Month View.

Whether you're a visual planner or just love the big-picture perspective, the new calendar-style month view makes it easier to stay on top of upcoming assignments, exams, and projects. No more surprises—just clarity and control. Just click on the month at the top of the day and week view screens to access it!

Preset Color Palettes (with opacity control!)

We know how hard it is to create a cohesive color scheme across all your classes—especially when your aesthetic changes weekly. That’s why we’re introducing preset color palettes. Choose from curated themes like Forest Moss, Sunset Serenade, and more to give your planner a vibe that matches yours. (Don’t worry, you can still pick your own custom colors if you're feeling creative)

Plus, you now have even more control over how things look: you can adjust the opacity for both pending and completed assignments. Whether you like your completed tasks to fade into the background or prefer a bold contrast, it’s up to you. This small detail makes a big difference in clarity—and makes your planner feel more you.

Brand New Widgets

Widgets just got a serious upgrade. In addition to our classic widgets, we’re now introducing Month View and Week View widgets—so you can see your schedule at a glance, right from your home screen. Whether you want a quick look at your week or an overview of the whole month, it’s all just a swipe away.

And introducing our newest widget: the Pinwheel. This visual tracker shows each of your classes as a ring, filling up as you complete tasks throughout the week. It's a quick, satisfying way to stay motivated and keep tabs on your progress.

Edit Recurring Tasks

Recurring tasks just got a major upgrade. Previously, once you created a repeating assignment, you couldn’t go back and make changes to the whole series. Now, you have full control—edit just one task, this and all following, or the entire series. Whether your schedule shifts or your routine changes, Recitation makes it easy to keep everything updated without starting from scratch.

Small Tweaks, Big Impact

We’ve made a few subtle but meaningful UI improvements. First up: a new save button. While Recitation used to auto-save changes, we heard your feedback—sometimes you want control. Now, you can make edits and choose exactly when to save them. We’ve also added automatic text coloring: when you pick a dark background, your text will appear white; choose a light one, and it’ll switch to black. No more squinting—your planner stays readable, no matter your color scheme. And finally, assignment colors now automatically update when you change a class color, keeping everything consistent without any extra work.
